The Cabárceno Nature Park is located on the site of an old iron extraction mine dating back to Roman times. It is not a zoo. Here the animals live in large areas, some 750 hectares, in semi-freedom, which guarantees their welfare and development, as Cabárceno is a natural area renowned for the quality of life of its animals and their care. Our recommendation is to avoid visiting the park on very hot days. Most of the animals will be lying in the shade and you will not be able to see them. Besides, you will be roasting in the gondola 🥵.
A large part of the visit can be done in your own vehicle. The park has parking areas in each enclosure or animal area, as well as picnic areas, viewpoints, recreational areas, cafeterias, a restaurant and a shop. There is also a route where you will not be able to get out of the vehicle as there are loose animals.
Of course you can access the park by motorhome, although some sections are not accessible due to the difficulty of the surface. But don't worry, you will always find an alternative route, so you won't miss anything.
Cabárceno also has a gondola lift from where you can fly over several of the animal areas and see bears, rhinos, hyenas, hippopotamus, camels and more.
The gondola lift consists of two independent lines linking strategic points within the park. The route is 6 kilometres long and consists of two independent facilities. The complete route takes approximately 30 minutes.
On each of the lines there is a "panoramic" cabin that allows you to see the park in detail, as the floor is completely transparent, so the sensation is unique. Normally you are not allowed to wait to take this gondola (it is number 1) so getting on is a matter of luck. It's worth it!
The natural park has a car park for motorhomes outside the paid area. It is located next to a lake (hence its name, Área del Lago del Acebo), and has a picnic area. The area has about 30 spaces, is completely free of charge and overnight stays are allowed.
