Route through Extremadura by motorhome from Vitoria.

1. Vitoria- Valladolid

Our first stop was Valladolid. If you are newcomers and especially if you are travelling with children on the first day, we don't recommend doing too many kilometres as you will start off tired after all the preparations, explanations, etc. The best thing to do is to find a comfortable stop along the route, trying to make sure that we will have a place to spend the night. We will have time to improvise and live adventures for the rest of the holidays 😂.

We usually take the opportunity to visit a children's playground. This time it was the turn of the Valley of the Six Senses.

2. Devil's Waterfall

La Cascada del Diablo has some 30 metres long and reaches up to the 70 metres highThe water flows between large rocks and lush vegetation grows on the sides. The water flows between large rocks and lush vegetation grows on the sides, creating a perfect environment for a good day out at any time of the year, although if you want to see it at its best, the ideal time to visit is in spring.

From the top of the waterfall to the bottom there is a path made of stone stairs that takes about 15 minutes at a leisurely pace, so it's a good way to get to the bottom. a perfect walk for everyone. When you reach the lowest part of the waterfall, you can look out over the waterfall. the viewpointwhich offers spectacular views of the area.

Jarandilla de la Vera

At the Comarca de la VeraCáceres is located Jarandilla de la Vera. A historic town surrounded by nature, which stands out both for its heritage and for the tranquillity it offers.

One of the treasures it holds is its Castlethat the emperor Charles V used as a residence in his retirement to the Monastery of Yuste. In the Tourist Office you can find out about this and the many activities and services that the area has to offer.

Monfragüe National Park

One of the must-see places in Monfragüe National Park is the rocky outcrop of Peña Falcón, more popularly known as “el Salto del Gitano“ (the Gypsy's Leap).“

Peña Falcón is a rock that resembles the figure of a Guardia Civil with his tricorn (or so they say). This is where the legend of the gypsy's leap begins:

«It was said that this gypsy was tall, strong and fierce, and that he cruelly sacrificed those he assaulted in order to increase the fear of those who heard of him.

Legend has it that two traders with their horses and 5 mules spent the night in Villareal de San Carlos. Of course, the gypsy waited for them at the top of the sierra to snatch their loot. Such was their fear of the gypsy that when he pulled out his knife, the traders left the mules and fled on the horses, the gypsy taking the loot without making a move.

The Guardia Civil appeared and began a chase until they reached Peña Falcón. The gypsy, far from allowing himself to be caught, jumped over the Tajo from the highest rock to the next. Such was the gypsy's feat that one of the Civil Guards was petrified, thus giving shape to the rocks that make up this well-known place».»

Scenic roads

The Landscape Roads are a project of the Provincial Council of Cáceres to raise awareness of the cultural, heritage and natural values of the territories through routes along roads with high scenic potential, as well as to promote the redistribution of tourist flows, visitors and tourists, precisely through those territories of our rural areas which are less known and visited but which, nevertheless, treasure a great variety of tourist resources.

These roads, unknown to many, open up new possibilities for discovering unique landscapes, little-visited and lesser-known corners, awakening interest in the rural world. The idea is, therefore, to discover the province of Cáceres travelling comfortably in your vehicle, safely, through unique landscapes and characteristic of the area where they are located, favouring the knowledge of the territorial identity and where the visitor can enjoy a natural and cultural offer very much in tune with the philosophy of the so-called slow tourism.

Extremadura is one of those destinations that you really enjoy when you have the freedom to stop wherever you want and take the journey without rushing.
Travelling by motorhome is not just about getting around, it's about experiencing each place in a different way.
