🚐 STAGE 1 Motorhome route from Vitoria to the Black Forest via France

The first part of our motorhome route with children starts in Vitoria-Gasteiz, heading towards the north of France. It is a long but very important part of the trip, as it marks the beginning of the adventure towards the Black Forest.

📍 Stops on this section

  • Vitoria-Gasteiz (departure)
  • Camping Sandaya Le Col Vert (Landes, France)
  • Parc de l'Auxois (Burgundy, France)
  • Arrival in Germany.

🇫🇷 Crossing France by motorhome

At first glance, crossing France may seem like the most “boring” part of the trip, but in fact it's quite the opposite if you plan it well. Along this route there are many interesting options that are totally compatible with travelling in a motorhome with children. Most of them are parks, natural spaces or small villages where you can stop to stretch your legs and disconnect for a while.

We also like to take the opportunity to visit a zoo or theme park on the way and take a different break on our journey. The good thing is that they usually close relatively early, which fits in perfectly with the pace of the motorhome: you can enjoy the day, make a good stop and, in the late afternoon (around 17:00-18:00), you can resume the route at your leisure.

On this occasion, we also decided to stop for a couple of days at the Sandaya Le Co Vert campsite to rest and cool off. It was very hot, so it was great for us to relax and make the most of the sun.

🌿 Camping Sandaya Le Col Vert

A perfect natural environment to start the journey calmly, to rest after many hours of driving and for the girls to enjoy green areas and fresh air.

🏰 Parc de l'Auxois

An ideal stop to make the trip more fun, especially with children. It's a kind of visit that breaks up the long journey and makes it part of the adventure.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👧 Travelling in France with children in a motorhome

This section is perfect for adapting the pace of the trip to the needs of the little ones. The key is not to see France as just a passing country, but as part of the journey itself.

With good stops, the journey becomes less of an “obligation” and more of an experience on the way to Germany.

🚐 STAGE 2
The black forest

This second stage of our motorhome tour with children marks a change of country and landscape. We leave France behind and enter Germany.

🇩🇪 Crossing into Germany by motorhome

Entering Germany by motorhome is very easy and comfortable. In this part of the journey we start to notice a different rhythm: less improvisation and more planning, but also more safety and comfort for travelling with children.

It is a perfect stage to adjust to the new country and to start enjoying some very interesting stops.

🌿 Baden-Baden: first stop in Germany

Baden-Baden is one of the first major cities on entering Germany and a highly recommended stop on this type of route.

It is an elegant city, quiet and perfect for a stroll after a few days of travelling. For families, it's a good way to get to know the country before entering the more natural area of the Black Forest.

🌲 Bad Wildbad: nature and relaxation

After Baden-Baden, we continue on to Bad Wildbad, a much more natural environment surrounded by forest.

Here we can already feel the atmosphere of the Black Forest: nature, simple routes and small, well-kept villages.
